Morpace Reports: Consumers Are Half as Likely to Buy from Big Three if Bankrupt FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner's refusal to consider bankruptcy as an option is substantiated by the results of a recent Morpace Omnibus Study. David Myhrer, Vice President of the Morpace Automotive Brand Strategy Practice, said the study shows that consumers who are currently likely to purchase a new vehicle from one of the Big Three are only half as likely to do so if the company goes bankrupt. Such an additional drop in demand would create further financial stress for the already cash-strapped companies. "Declaring bankruptcy could significantly reduce sales and make their cash flow problem even worse," said Myhrer. The Morpace study compared consumers' likelihood of purchasing a new vehicle from one of the Big Three with their likelihood to do the same if the companies were to go into bankruptcy. Twenty-one percent say they are currently "very likely" to buy a vehicle from Chrysler, Ford, or General Motors. If the company of interest were to go bankrupt, only 10 percent say they would be "very likely" to purchase. The Morpace Omnibus study completed 1,016 interviews using an Internet panel of adults aged 18 and older. The sample reflects the demographic profile of the U.S. population. About Morpace Inc. "It is critical that you meet this deadline since we have announced we are prepared to come back into session the week of December 8 to consider legislation to assist your industry. We intend to give pertinent agencies within the executive branch, the Government Accountability Office, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, as well as outside experts, the opportunity to comment on your work," Reid and Pelosi wrote. Below is the full text of the letter: November 21, 2008 Dear Messrs Wagoner, Mulally, and Nardelli: We recognize the importance of the domestic automobile industry and are committed to working with you to ensure its viability in the years to come. One in 10 American jobs is related to auto manufacturing; our national security depends on the industry's technologies and manufacturing capacity; and our competitiveness in a global economy depends on its pursuit of excellence. As you know, Congress has provided President Bush, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, and the Treasury Department the authority they need under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (EESA) as well as other authorities to provide short-term financial assistance to the auto companies. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration and the Federal Reserve have thus far declined to use their powers to improve our nation's financial stability by assisting the auto industry. Notwithstanding existing authorities, this Congress is prepared to consider additional legislation that would give the assistance you seek, provided that you submit a credible restructuring plan that results in a viable industry, with quality jobs, and economic opportunity for the 21st century while protecting taxpayer investments. In order for Congress to act in a timely manner, this plan must be presented to Congress by December 2nd, specifically to Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd and Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank. It is critical that you meet this deadline since we have announced we are prepared to come back into session the week of December 8 to consider legislation to assist your industry. We intend to give pertinent agencies within the executive branch, the Government Accountability Office, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, as well as outside experts, the opportunity to comment on your work. The plan must: ⢠Provide a forthright, documented assessment of the auto companies' current operating cash position, short-term liquidity needs to continue operations as a going-concern, and how they will meet the financing needs associated with the plan to ensure the companies' long-term viability as they retool for the future; ⢠Provide varying estimates of the terms of the loan requested with varying assumptions including that of automobile sales at current rates, at slightly improved rates, and at worse rates; ⢠Provide for specific measures designed to ensure transparency and accountability, including regular reporting to, and information-sharing with, any federal government oversight mechanisms established to safeguard taxpayer investments; ⢠Protect taxpayers by granting the most senior status for any government loans provided, ensuring that taxpayers get paid back first; ⢠Assure that taxpayers benefit as corporate conditions improve and shareholder value increases through the provision of warrants or other mechanisms; ⢠Bar the payment of dividends and excessive executive compensation, including bonuses and golden parachutes by companies receiving taxpayer assistance; ⢠Include proposals to address the payment of health care and pension obligations; ⢠Demonstrate the auto companies' ability to achieve the fuel efficiency requirements set forth in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and become a long-term global leader in the production of energy-efficient advanced technology vehicles; and ⢠Require that government loans be immediately callable if long-term plan benchmarks are not met. Dana Holding Corporation Secures Amended Credit Facility; Agreement Provides for Strategic Flexibility TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE:DAN) announced today that it has received the requisite support of its lenders to amend the financial covenants for its $1.3 billion senior secured term credit facility. This covers the company's financial covenants for each fiscal quarter through 2012. The financial covenants in the term credit facility are calculated and determined at the end of each quarter. Dana anticipates being in compliance with the amended covenants as of December 31, 2008. Dana also received permission to dispose of certain non-core businesses and issue additional debt outside the United States. These amendments will provide Dana with greater flexibility as it considers strategic options and implements its restructuring plans. In connection with the amendment of its term credit facility, Dana has agreed to pay an amendment fee and increase the annual base interest rate by 50 basis points per annum and will repay $150 million of outstanding principal under the term credit facility. As of October 31, 2008, the company had approximately $1 billion in unrestricted cash. Reports Record Positive Fiscal Third Quarter and Nine Month Results Year over Year Quarterly Sales Increase 24.7% HONG KONG, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- China Premium Lifestyle Enterprise, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CPLY) today reported its 2008 fiscal third quarter results for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. For the quarter ended September 30, 2008, the Company reported net sales increased approximately $6,601,000 or 24.7% to approximately $33,362,000, compared with approximately $26,761,000 for the same period of 2007. The increase was primarily attributable to the increased sales from our new vehicle trading segment. Gross profit margin for the nine months ended September 30, 2008 increased by 1.0% from 15.2% for the same period of 2007 to 16.2% for the current period and gross profit increased by approximately $3,497,000 to approximately $13,968,000 for the nine months ended September 30, 2008. SAE International Cooperative Research Rates New Refrigerant for Mobile Air-Conditioning Systems Superior WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new refrigerant for use in mobile air-conditioning systems (MAC) -- HFO1234yf -- offers superior environmental performance and can be used in future vehicles that are designed to use the new refrigerant, according to results of an SAE International Cooperative Research Program (CRP). The CRP 1234-1 and CRP1234-2 programs, launched in 2007, investigated the safety and performance of the new refrigerant. Under the direction of the SAE CRP members (who are international experts in this field from OEMs, Tier 1 and 2 Suppliers and independent test facilities), air-conditioning system performance, material compatibility and relative risks of HFO1234yf were evaluated. Based on these studies, this alternative refrigerant -- of all proposed alternatives -- has been judged to have the lowest risk for use in MAC systems in meeting environmental and consumer needs. This is demonstrated in the results of the Life Cycle Climate Protection analysis to estimate CO2 Equivalent emissions from MAC Operation (GREEN-MAC-LCCP(C)) as described in SAE J2766. These SAE CRP activities are in response to the international regulations by the European Union that require all new vehicles receiving type approval in 2011 or later to use a refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) below 150. Current global MAC systems use HFC-134a, a refrigerant having a GWP of 1,430. HFO1234yf has a GWP of only four. SAE International has been conducting cooperative research programs since 2001 to evaluate the new, environmentally friendly refrigerants for use in MAC systems. CRP members include major automobile manufacturers from Europe, Asia, and the U.S. These OEMs account for approximately 70 percent of all new vehicle sales in the EU and worldwide. More detailed results of SAE International Cooperative Research Program 1234 will be provided in the near future. The Renault-Nissan Alliance Enters Zero-Emission Vehicle Partnership in Sonoma County SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Renault-Nissan Alliance today announced that Nissan North America, Inc. is committing to working with the Sonoma County community of governments to develop solutions for zero-emissions mobility through the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs) and the development of an EV charging network throughout Sonoma County, in northern California. Nissan as part of the agreement has committed to make available a supply of EVs to Sonoma County community of governments, as well as to work with the parties to develop plans for the creation of an EV battery-charging network in the county. The Sonoma County group will work with Nissan towards realizing these objectives, particularly through the development of methods that encourage the purchase or lease of EVs as well as the establishment of an EV charging network. There have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with these tires. "This advanced diesel technology allows the vehicle to become the first automobile to meet the world's most stringent emission control standards - California's Tier II, Bin 5," he added. Fast Acting Injectors Play a Big Role The latest common rail system relies on highly precise rapidly switching piezo injectors, which have 75 percent fewer moving components and mass, allowing them to switch at double the speed of previous solenoid-valve injectors. This allows the piezo injectors to significantly lower diesel emissions, increase the achievable engine power and noticeably lower engine noise - depending on the specifics of the engine. "The Jetta TDI diesels operating with this system are very powerful with lots of torque in addition to high fuel efficiency and very low emissions - and they are very quiet," Hustedt said. "In older diesel engines, the fuel management system was almost entirely mechanical," Hustedt said. "Higher pressures in the new electronically controlled systems allow injectors to deliver finer atomization of the fuel, while improving combustion efficiency and lowering particulate emissions." To help make it 'green,' in addition to the sophisticated Bosch fuel system components, the Jetta also uses a Noxstorage catalyst, which is basically a reservoir that temporarily holds the noxious emissions like a particulate filter, until they can be burned off during one of the engine cycles.
