King Off Road Shocks
Carli
suspension systems feature King Shock Technology
shocks. These premium shocks include CAD designed
high flow pistons made from 7075 cold drawn
aluminum.With heat treated, velocity sensitive
valving setups which are proprietary to Carli's
suspension systems. The shock bodies are smooth bore
seemless tubing which is honed to within +/- .001
and is CAD plated to withstand the elements. The
urethane based seals ride on chrome plated high
carbon steel. Billet anodized aluminum end caps and
rod ends on these shocks are made of 6061 aluminum
and house 5/8 teflon lined spherical bearings. King
Shocks are found on many of the top Trophy Trucks
and Class 1 unlimited buggies.
This is a custom built shock. The
body is custom length, the shaft is custom length,
and the rod ends have custom bearing sizes. The top
cap is machined to work in conjunction with the
shock towers without any interference. The shocks
are so big that the kit comes with a tool to cut the
inside of the coil bucket in order to open it up so
that the shock can cycle front to back and side to
side, without interference.
These shocks come with an
increased length reservoir to match the fluid volume
inside the shock body. The shocks mount to the
factory shock positions except for the towers in
front. The high misalignment spacers for the 2.5
systems are the same that work with the Carli 3.0
system, utilizing a 5/8 bearing. This was another
customization for Carli Suspension.
The rear shocks have a weld on
piggy back reservoir. The 3.0 has a 1 diameter
shaft, vs the 7/8 shaft on the 2.5 system, this is
closer to a race application. The vavling has been
customized to meet Carlis standards for maximum
performance all around. So the shocks work great for
advanced off road use, while improving the street
driving characteristics of the suspension system.
Custom valve profiles were designed for each system,
independently. The 2.5 works very different from the
3.0.
The 3.0 shocks performance is a
huge step up from the 2.5 system. If you take the
surface diameter of the 2.5 shock piston vs. the
3.0, you will find that there is 50% increase in
surface area, just from ½ increase in diameter of
the shock. The 2.5 has a 4 square inch piston and
the 3.0 has a 6 square inch piston, so you actually
double the piston size just by going up a half inch
in shock diameter. This allows the 3.0 to offer as
much shock performance as 2x 2.5. The problem with
multiple shocks is that you MUST tune each shock to
work with each other, vs a big single shock, where
you can tune the shock to work independently.
